The Office of Emergency Management is serious about students staying safe. They always try to alert students about personal safety. They also try to teach them what to do in crisis situations or severe weather.
Earlier this month was severe weather awareness week. The office wanted to try something knew to get student’s attention. We decided after we sent the test alert that we would host a giveaway. The test message included information about the giveaway. We created a Snapchat story with tips for staying safe in severe weather. At the end, we hid giveaway items in the busiest academic buildings on campus. The items were placed in the designated shelter locations of each building.
More than 3,800 followers watched our Snapchat story and all our giveaways were found. Many students showed up after the giveaways were all gone. It was exciting to see the level of engagement from students. It helps to get them to retain information if you promise free stuff!
