Helping Our SEC Neighbors

UT is known for its Volunteer spirit. When floods devastated South Carolina in late 2015, members of the UT community wanted to do something to help our neighbors nearby.

Offices across campus met and determined we should form a campus-wide relief response team. As a member of this response team, I was able to help develop a plan for how we could assist with relief efforts.

Since the creation of this team, we have collected goods and monetary donations for flood relief efforts in South Carolina and Louisiana and fire relief efforts in Sevier County.

When we launched the relief campaigns, we used the UT website, campus newsletters, and social media to spread the message. We not only invited students, faculty, and staff on campus to donate, but also asked our alumni to show their Volunteer spirit and give goods or monetary donations.

While we hope that devastating situations like these never happen, we are now always prepared to help in any way we can.
